A unique location just steps from Lake Zurich, spectacular interiors steeped in tradition, and highly personal service: these are hallmarks of the exclusive Baur au Lac. For almost 170 years, this Zurich landmark has been in the care of one family, which has maintained its traditional elegance and high standards while introducing every modern comfort.

Throughout its illustrious history, Baur au Lac has catered to royalty, celebrities and discerning international travelers with unequaled hospitality. And now, a $50-million renovation has brought new luster to this historic gem, the centerpiece of which is a Pierre Yves-Rochon redesign of the popular Pavillon restaurant and its adjoining Terrasse. The internationally renowned Rive Gauche restaurant, too, was recently relaunched with a bold new sophisticated style.

Thirty-two of the hotel’s guest accommodations have been reconfigured to create 22 expansive new rooms and suites, all upgraded with the latest technology, including Bose sound systems in all suites. All accommodations provide the ultimate in luxury, and their style evokes the intimate atmosphere of a private home.

There are several luxurious, expertly appointed salons for business and social gatherings. The hotel resides in its own private park on the lake shore at the upper end of fashionable Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich’s famous shopping and business district. It is just a stone’s throw from all the city’s major cultural and historic attractions.

Dining

Rive Gauche: A sparkling blend of chic restaurant and bar, the Rive Gauche is the ideal place for hotel guests to mingle with Zurich’s youthful, cosmopolitan society. A modern Mediterranean grill whose purist lines are shot through with palpable sensuality.

Pavillon: Reworked from top to toe, the Restaurant Pavillon is open year-round. Star architect Pierre-Yves Rochon has glazed the magnificent rotunda on almost every side, drawing nature’s seasons into his ingenious design concept. Enchanting culinary delights are matched by the restaurant’s excellent service. An encyclopaedic wine list reflects the unrivaled expertise of the Baur au Lac’s own wine cellar. The Pavillon and Chef Laurent Eperon have been awarded one Star-Michelin and 17 GaultMillau points.

Diners can also enjoy the Baur au Lac’s signature chocolate “Chocolat 1844” in various desserts at Pavillon and Rive Gauche restaurants.

The Terrasse: Undisputedly the most exclusive place in Zurich to while away those hot summer days and lazy evenings. Refreshing cocktails and ice-cold champagne are served as aperitifs in the decidedly chic lounges. Small snacks and light meals are served until midnight by a friendly, outgoing team. Soak up the distinctly cosmopolitan atmosphere of grandeur and extravagance.

Le Hall: The hotel hall adjoining the entrance hall of the Baur au Lac is a popular all-day meeting and dining place with a fascinating historical background: it was here in 1892 that German author Bertha von Suttner convinced the Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel of the need for the international Nobel Peace Prize.

Weddings

Baur au Lac’s wedding planner provides professional assistance to help couples organize their special day, from an aperitif in Zurich’s most picturesque private park to begin the reception to a special wedding menu with the most appropriate wines from the Baur au Lac’s own varied selection. Place cards, menus and seating arrangements are carefully arranged in accordance with the couple’s wishes, and local photographers, musicians and other entertainers recommended according to their tastes.
