Perched high in the Engadine, in the Swiss ski resort of Pontresina, The Grand Hotel Kronenhof provides world-class hospitality in a magnificent neo-Baroque setting surrounded by pine and larch forests. Opened as an alpine guest house in 1848 and transformed into a grand hotel at the turn of the 20th century, the legendary hotel, with 112 expansive rooms and suites, is one of the most architecturally significant in the Swiss Alps. A recent restoration has returned the Kronenhof to its original beauty.
Guests of the Kronenhof enjoy a multitude of warm and winter-weather recreation, from downhill skiing to sailing the Engadine lakes. Guests of the Kronenhof also enjoy complimentary green fees at the 9-hole executive course of the Kronenhof’s sister hotel – the Kulm Hotel, St. Moritz. Indoors, further delights await, including an array of tempting spa treatments and water features at the luxurious Kronenhof Spa.
Guests can spend a quiet hour reading the day’s news in the charming Blue Room, with its elaborate stucco work in soft pastels, or settle by the fire in the cozy Fireplace Lounge, or bowl a few frames in the hotel’s private bowling alley before joining friends for a traditional Swiss fondue.
Dining is a special treat, with choices ranging from the charmingly rustic Kronenstübli, awarded 16 points by GaultMillau, to the majestic Grand Restaurant with its buffets and fascinating ceiling paintings.
At the end of the day, guests retire to magnificently decorated guest rooms and suites, outfitted with every modern comfort. Plenty of windows allow sunlight to stream into these spacious and charming rooms in the daytime, and those facing south boast spectacular views of the Roseg glacier.
Grand Restaurant: Sumptuous breakfast buffets and gala dinners are served under resplendent vaulted ceilings in the magnificent Grand Restaurant. The highlights of the five courses are changed daily. In light of the hotel’s luxury and tradition, guests are asked to dress for dinner – gentlemen in a jacket or dark suit.
Gourmet Restaurant Kronenstübli: Awarded with 16 GaultMillau points, this intimate restaurant serves the finest Italian-Mediterranean and French cuisine. In a rustic setting enhanced by antique larch wood panels and original wood furnishings from the Grisons, one of the most spectacular classics of the French cuisine, the “Canard à la presse”, can be discovered – an exceptional taste experience, uniquely presented.
Children’s Restaurant “Rondelle”: In the evenings, young guests (from age 3) can enjoy their own supervised dining experience, with menu selections according to parents’ wishes. Reservation required.
Kronenhof Bar: Champagne, the finest cognacs, whiskeys and gins, cocktails and more are served up in the neo-baroque setting of the hotel lobby and lounge, complete with phenomenal glacier views. Daily afternoon tea includes an excellent selection of international teas, home-made cakes and sandwiches. The Kronenhof bar is open daily from 11 a.m. until late at night, with piano entertainment beginning at 4 p.m. Hot and cold snacks are available until 11 p.m.
Le Pavillon: Savor light lunches & snacks, hot soups, cheese fondue, drinks and much more in the historic Pavillon with the most breath-taking view of Pontresina. In winter you can skate on the adjacent ice rink or, as in the summer, soak up sun on the terrace.
